If you have read my Piha post, if not click here, you will have seen me mention Whatipu Beach (pronounced ‘Fut-i-pu’). This is still part of the Black Sands Tour which I had paid for. Now here is the sales pitch, it is totally worth paying the 150 NZD. Shaun, the guy who owns the tour company, has 14 different locations at the moment and this is great because he has locations for all sorts of weather. He also he directs the tour at those he is showing around, so if there are a few adenalin junkies with him he will make the tour fast paced and does things to make your adenalin jump. If you are after a more relaxed wander or just sit on the beach, he is cool with that too. How many tour companies do that?
Do you think I earned my commission haha.
Anyway, after we were at Piha we went to Whatipu beach. We were going to try and see the Kitekite falls but they were really busy. so we went to the beach instead. Maybe I will book another tour with him before I leave New Zealand and head there earlier in the morning to get the benefit of seeing them.
Anyway, we went to Whatipu beach which was spectacular. There was probably a total of 20 people there, maximum, and it really was beautiful.
The black sands seemed to be darker and actually shows up a little more on the pictures which you can see below.
Here we didn’t do too much, I paddled through the waves and just took in the beauty of this place.
Also you should never get between a sea-lion and the sea.
